 Quality of Life

Located just eleven miles from the geographic center of Mississippi, Walnut Grove is affectionately known by residents and visitors alike as “the best little town in Mississippi.”  Walnut Grove (population 489) offers most amenities and opportunities that many rural, small Mississippi towns do.

Walnut Grove has a larger population outside the town limits. Walnut Grove is fortunate to have a large public library, 24 hour police and fire protection, a medical clinic, pharmacy, two restaurants, and a full service bank. Walnut Grove has limited retail shopping and the need and customer base is there for much more.

However, the town is within a 15 minute drive to Carthage and Forest where more retail shopping can be found and just an hour to larger metropolitan areas of Jackson and Meridian.

Annually, the town sponsors "Walnut Grove Day" on the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend.

The day is filled with good food, good music, arts and crafts and good friends.

Local churches work together for various ecumenical services throughout the year including a Community Easter and Community Thanksgiving Services .  Walnut Grove has two women’s civic/service organizations.

The Thursday Club and Mom's & Daughter's Club.  Other opportunities for community service (Rotary, Lion’s Club, Gideons International) and involvement can be found in the county seat of Carthage.  One of the state's hidden treasures, Golden Memorial State Park is located just a few miles outside of Walnut Grove.

Walnut Grove boasts the benefits of the small town country life and has the extra benefit of  being just an hour from Jackson, the Capital City, where metropolitan life and culture can be found.
